Here are some questions I asked myself:

Is this a subject I like or that I’m fascinated with?

It’s important not to allow yourself to get ho-hum bored with your niche. After all, it’s an on-going work in process that you must continually think about and create daily.

Can I profit from this product?

A very significant aspect is money. I believe it must all work together in harmony with your other reasons for creating a niche.

Can my niche become a hub?

This is what eventually will happen in the long-term if I’ve chosen my niche wisely. And perhaps it will turn into a gateway to other niche sites. This is my goal.

Do I understand the SILO structure for building my niche?

I think the SILO  is the way to build a niche. I’ve studied the structure and believe I’m beginning to understand it fairly well now.

Can I have fun with my niche?

Yes, fun is of extreme importance, to me it’s probably #1 — My motto is to have fun and enjoy what you’re doing. It’s the yummy frosting on the cake and shows up in your work.

This has been a growing experience for me, especially since I’ve changed my niche topic around three times. Right now I’m on the third topic and I’m considering it to be the charm. Due to this it has taken me a little longer than expected to get my site up and running, however I believe it’s worth it.

I’m using the SILO structure to set up my niche site and this is what I’ve done so far:

Utilizing the Trellian Keyword Research Tool, I’ve created folders for five topic keywords for my niche site. Within the five-keyword-topics I’ve created seven keyword phrases. Each one of the phrases will be a page in my niche site.

My next step was to choose products at the Clickbank Marketplace for my five-keyword-topics. I then copy/pasted each product with clickbank hoplink into Notepad and placed the info into its respective folder. I will eventually cloak my hoplinks using My Affiliate Assistant software.

Since I have a visual mind, I find it helpful to sketch a draft (by hand on scratch paper) of each individual page of my site. When I’m finished with the draft all I need to do is follow it and create the site.

At the present time this is my WIP (work in process) and I will share more with you in a few days.

Last evening my mentor and I spoke on SKYPE and together cleared up a few things I was puzzled over relating to my sidebar in my Work-From-Home Blog.

I learned a little more about placing “Categories” into the sidebar.  Actually, this is a simple task:  just type in the category of choice and WALA press the add button and you’ve got it.

I also learned more about how to arrange button codes and HTML codes, placing the code into the sidebar so it is aligned properly. It is amazing how much you will learn about HTML just by reading the codes.

This morning I deleted HTML code and added HTML code.  This is a “work in process” so you will see more changes in my sidebar as I develop my blog in the future.

I knew very little about FTP (File Transfer Protocol) when I started with NZPCS but it didn’t take long before my mentor helped me learn. I also gleaned some FTP basics from watching one of the many videos provided by NZPCS .

After my initial setup of WordPress and my plugins were activated, I needed to activate my Akismet plugin. Akismet is important in that it blocks spammers from filtering in on your site. In order to activate Akismet I needed an API key; to get a key I needed an account with WordPress.com. So I opened an account and they sent me my key via email. I entered the key in the appropriate spot and am now protected from spammers.

Now that this was accomplished I went to the Manage Tab then to Comments and deleted the “Mr WordPress Comments.”

Next I applied “the ping list” — this I learned from watching the NZPCS video: First I opened the Blogpack supplied by NZPCS (downloaded software for WordPress) and copied the pinglist from Note Pad provided in the blogpack. I then went to my WordPress dashboard and clicked Options, then Writing. I scrolled to the end of the page and pasted my pinglist into the window provided.

My next step was to change the Permalink structure. I clicked the Option tab then Permalinks. I scrolled down until I found Custom. Then I typed in: /%category%/%postname%

It is important to remember to click “update file” each time you change settings.

Next I inserted my Google pub ID code into the google_ad_client. I did this by clicking the Presentation tab then Theme Editor. In the sidebar I found Sidebar and Footer. I opened each one and added my Google pub ID.
